John Olerud Retires

By Mike Steffanos

First baseman John Olerud has informed the Boston Red Sox of his intention to retire.

He may have only spent three seasons with the Mets, but they were good years for both the team and Olerud. He was the ultimate professional as a player, and he was a good man, too. He was the type of player that the Mets have had on their roster much too infrequently. We wish him only success in whatever he does.
