Aaron Heilman and Anderson Hernandez Look Good in Win

Mike SteffanosSaturday, March 4, 2006
By Mike Steffanos

Aaron Heilman and Brian Bannister each pitched 2 strong innings. Left-handed specialist candidate Mike Venafro gave up 2 runs on 4 hits in his one inning, while Royce Ring (remember him?) pitched the ninth and got a save. Anderson Hernandez has 3 hits and scored 3 times to lead the attack. Jose Valentin went 2 for 2 with 2 RBIs. Cliff Floyd, Xavier Nady and Victor Diaz all had RBIs for the Mets.

Tomorrow the Mets will split the squad, with one squad playing the Dodgers and the other playing against the WBC Puerto Rican team. Mike Pelfrey will be one of the pitchers against the Puerto Ricans, while John Maine and Alay Soler will face the Dodgers.
