Mets 12 - Cardinals 2
Tom Glavine, who has struggled so far this spring, looked somewhat better today against the Cardinals, despite giving up solo home runs to Jim Edmonds and Albert Pujols. Those 2 runs were all the Cards managed off Glavine in 5 innings, who gave up 5 hits and 4 walks while striking out 3. Afterwards Glavine commented on his effort:
I guess the box line pretty much speaks for what it was: two terrible pitches and gave up two bombs and everything else was pretty good. It tells me when I'm executing my pitches, I'm getting the results that I want.
I don't know, Tom, I think I'd like to see you cut the walks down, too. Give up 4 walks to the Cardinals in season, and I suspect they'll get you for more than a 2-spot...
Pedro Feliciano, Chad Bradford, Jorge Julio and Duaner Sanchez followed Glavine with scoreless innings.
Jose Reyes led the offense, going 3-4 with 3 runs scored. David Wright, who has not been hitting well this spring, had a pair of doubles in 4 at-bats, driving in 2 runs. Farmhand Chase Lambin bombed a long 2-run homer in the eighth.
The Mets will travel to Kissimmee to face the Astros tomorrow. Rookie Brian Bannister will pitch.
