Astros 3 - Mets 2
The Mets dropped their contest with the Astros today when Steve Schmoll came into a tie game in the ninth and more or less pitched batting practice, giving up a walk and 3 hits while registering only a single out. Aaron Heilman was effective in his 3 innings to start the game, giving up one run on 2 hits. Brian Bannister blanked the Astros in his 3 inning stint, giving up one hit, no walks and striking out 3. Darren Oliver got touched up for an unearned run in his 2 innings, striking out 4.

On offense, the Mets managed only 7 hits, with Paul Lo Duca getting 2 of them. The Mets will face the Cardinals tomorrow in St. Lucie.

I hate being your only antagonist
1. On today and yesterday; Most Spring stats lie. As was beautifull discussed on Foxsports AM yesterday, pitchers will throw their curves in 3-2 counts, throw their pitches they trust least xcetera. so wagner bothers me least. But Julio does bother me because his was on the big stage, but then again it was his first Spr outing
2. BUT BELTRAN???? With the lights on he sure can elevate a notch.
3. Once again Kepp can do what Matsui CANNOT. yesteray he was OK today error &0-3. While Kepp continues to do what HE does which is go 2-4/1-3 and does not show up in the E column. So far Kepp and AH are the Spr stars. Without Beltran, and Delgado DW has no real protection. Then again why isn't he playing for the US? huston Street, ands other no names are.
4. Duaner has looked pretty good.
4. Now both Pelfrey and Maine look like a little work is needed.

Hi Ed. You seem to be the only one that can disagree with me and not take things personally.

I wish Julio was in camp working with Peterson. By the time he gets there it's going to be too late to make many changes this year.

Pelfrey is going to need at least some time in the minors, to work on a breaking pitch. Maybe we see him in New York late.

If Matsui keeps struggling, you might get your wish with Keppinger.
