Trachsel Looks Good in Loss to Orioles

Orioles 3 - Mets 2 (10)
The Mets lost a sloppy game to the Orioles in Fort Lauderdale this afternoon, but the brain trust had to be happy with Steve Trachsel's scoreless 4 inning stint. Trachsel scattered 2 hits and a walk while striking out 2. The relievers that followed were less impressive. Mike Venafro pitched a scoreless inning but gave up a couple of hits. Darren Oliver struggled with his control, giving up a run on 2 hits and 2 walks in 2 innings, and was fortunate not to give up more. Tim Lavigne gave up the tying run in the ninth, although he was victimized by 1B Juan Tejada's error. Bryan Edwards lost the game for the Mets in the tenth.

The Mets were hardly scintillating on offense, managing only 5 hits and running into silly outs on the base paths. CF Julio Ramirez had a long home run off former Met Rick Bottalico for the Amazin's, while Tejada drove in the Mets' other run with a double.

The Mets will play a night game at home in St. Lucie tomorrow against the Nationals. Tom Glavine will start for the Mets, matched up against former Met Pedro Astacio.
