I link to different Mets bloggers from this site, and I respect their work very much. One thing I have studiously avoided, however, is doing any kind of listing of my favorite Mets bloggers. Don't get me wrong, I have my favorites, but I always felt it was a weird sort of backhanded slap at whoever wasn't on the list. With the news today that one of my absolute favorites is packing it in, at least for now, I hope I can be forgiven for handing out some kudos to Vinny from Metsville.com.
A very good writer who is also funny, Vinny also brought to the table the two things you just can't fake as a baseball blogger, passion and knowledge. Since he's not dead, I'll avoid the temptation to go overboard with something that sounds like a eulogy. Besides, Vinny even leaves the door open for an eventual return:
Even though I won't be updating it, I'm not taking the site down, and I'm not closing the door on an eventual return to blogging. But, for now, I think I'd rather just go back to being a fan of the Mets, watching and enjoying the games without feeling obligated to dissect them or come up with something witty to say, which, I must say, was a lot easier to do when they were bad.
I hope you come back at some point, Vinny, if the chore turns back into joy someday, but in any case, thank you, for two and a half years of great Mets coverage. As someone who has been doing this for less than a year, and understands how hard it can be to keep this up day after day, I'm somewhat in awe of that achievement. Thanks, Vinny.
