By Joyce Mandelkern

I am an insanely passionate die-hard Mets fan since 1962 who is also a season ticket holder and usually can't bear to look and buries her head in her hands or starts pacing when I'm home when things get tense (especially when the closer is in) and begins to pray and make deals with the baseball gods to just let us win and who tries to never ever miss a pitch of any spring training or regular season game not even the west coast ones whether we are 35 games under 500 or over 500 and whose boys knew the mets lineups by heart before they even knew their ABC's and who is actually going to really miss Shea but not the bathrooms there and who hopes they bring the apple with them to Citifield and who still can't believe they didn't get to the world series this year and win it and who cried through the whole '86 celebration at Shea and who still loves the LETS GO METS GO video. Our boys are grown now and one is even married and I'm proud to say they too are die-hard mets fan as is my daughter-in-law. My husband and I live in Sands Point, NY with our 3 Wheaton terriers. My husband, Pete, my high school sweetheart and I have been married nearly 28 years and he is of course a die-hard Mets fan (or it would've been a deal breaker!!!) but can't make it up through the rain delays or the west coast games...but I love him anyway... He played college baseball and actually tried out for the Mets (didn't make it as you may have guessed...I did send him to Mets fantasy camp though!) My other teams are the New York Football Giants and the Syracuse Orange and I'll save how I feel about the team from the dark side for another day.

I have known Joyce Mandelkern for 24 years and I can attest to the fact that she is a passionate person about everything in her life, family, friends, dogs, etc. - that is what makes her so special and exciting. The Mets are lucky to have her out there rooting for them, heart and soul. So are all of us.

Hey Joyce, I think you should most definitely sit in your seat wearing any Met's apparrel of your choosing to any stadium in the USA, as you are a paying ticket holder, a professed lover of the game of baseball, plus you are brave enough to be willing to put in bold print, in the public domain for all to see, that you are a passionate Met's fan. This is exactly what makes this sport's crazed country so great and by the way it is not the same thing as having a guest sit in your living room wearing the visiting team's baseball cap on their arrogant head. If you are attending a public event and do not behave in a manner that would generally be considered to be rude and obnoxious, nor are you using abusive profanity aimed at the opposing players or their fans, then lady, I say hold your ground!!! Watch and enjoy the game and cheer on your team with the knowledge that you have decades of personal history as a devoted fan behind you and everybody knows that any New York fan of any sport is superior in their knowledge and understanding of their favorite sport. You go girl!!! Yeah Joyce! :)

Let's Go Joyce!!! You are the best!!!!!!!

Hi Joyce!

Just wanted to say continue to stand by your team. As I was reading your description above, I kept thinking things like, "me, too" or "that's exactly how I feel!". One big difference, though, is that the team I love is the Braves. I've been pulling for them since I was 8 years old, which makes it 40 years now. Let me tell you, it's been quite a ride. Some bad years, and quite a few good ones the last decade and a half. Keep on cheering, and so will I!

good job on the blog this year, joyce.i enjoyed reading your posts and look forward to reading u in the offseason and in 2008..as far as the mets this year, something was missing all year and than the bottom fell out the last 2 weeks.look at the way san diego got eliminated last nite.they said hoffman had a lifetime 91 per cent save percentage with 2 run leads.not any more.lot of depressed padre fans waking up today, so we have a little company.

Nice post Joyce. I agree with you for the most part, except for Lo Duca. I also like his attitude and pitcher handling, but do we need a singles hitting catcher with a sub par throwing arm? Pudge Rodriquez is a FA this year. How about him? Posada is also in the last year of his contract. Wrt to Glavine, I COMPLETELY AGREE. Stick a fork in him, he's done.

Some other things I thing the Mets should consider:

1. Trade anyone, except Reyes and Wright, for Johan Santana
2. Eat Mota's contract. I dont care how much it is
3. Sign Aaron Rowand (another FA) and dump Green
4. Bring back Scott Kazmir.
5. Get a Scot Shields or Jonathan Broxton as a setup man

gary s - misery loves company...i know hoffman has the numbers, but i always thought he was overrated...even we got to him this year...

bryant - i know omar loves pudge - i'm just afraid his best days (offensively and defensively) are way behind him...as for posada, i could never get past the yankee thing - but thats just me...and isn't he 37? probably had a career year in his walk year...i understand what you're saying about paulie - i just love his heart, his drive, that he is willing to play hurt and that he cares...should be an interesting offseason...

thanks for the kind words, guys

If we are to keep Lo Duca perhaps it would be best they made it more of a platoon favoring Castro. Defensively I dont think theres much differnece but Ramon has shown he can pop the long ball more consistently.

hello mrs. Mandelkern, I think that you should write a book, that would be great, discussing your mets fandom, how you became a mets fan, as well as some mets history, how you felt during the specific moment, things like that, anyways good luck with the blog, and lets go mets
