New York Mets Vintage World Series Films DVD
1969 & 1986 World Series Highlight Films
1 DVD / 75 Minutes
A&E Home Video
This past spring I reviewed the terrific 9-DVD boxed set of the 1986 World Series, which is certainly a must-have for any New York Mets fan. That set included the complete telecasts of all 7 World Series games along with the decisive game 6 of the Astros series and a DVD of extras.
For something a little lighter on your attention span -- and your wallet -- A&E Home Video has come out with a single-DVD that includes the official MLB highlight videos of both the 1969 and 1986 World Series.
The 1969 video is familiar to Mets fans who go back to the 1970s, as it was often played on channel 9 during rain delays of Mets games. For those who don't go back that far, it's a fun look at the team that added the word Amazin' to our Mets vocabulary. This 40-minute highlight film shows the highlights of all 5 Series games and features two pretty good young pitchers named Seaver and Koosman. The legendary catches by Tommy Agee and Ron Swaboda can also be enjoyed.
The 30-minute 1986 video captures all of the great moments from the last Mets World Series winner featuring heroics by such favorites as Lenny Dykstra, Wally Backman, Ray Knight, Bob Ojeda and Keith Hernandez -- and, of course, Mookie Wilson's game 6 at bat against Bob Stanley that turned the Series.
Priced at $19.95 from A&E, and often available for less at the usual on-line outlets, this DVD would make a nice, inexpensive gift for any Mets fan on your list.
