According to Fox.com's Ken Rosenthal and SI.com's Jon Heyman, the Mets have traded relievers Heath Bell and Royce Ring to the San Diego Padres in return for 25-year-old outfield prospect Ben Johnson and right-handed reliever Jon Adkins.
Johnson batted .250 with 4 HR and 12 RBI in 120 ABs with the Padres last season. Heyman offers this on both newly-acquired players:
The Mets like the athleticism of Johnson, 25, who batted .250 with four home runs and 12 RBIs in limited duty for the Padres last season. His acquisition adds depth to New York's outfield and should allow them to keep prospect Lastings Milledge in the minor leagues in 2007. Adkins, 29, made 55 relief appearances last season, posting a 3.98 ERA and striking out 30 batters in 54 1/3 innings.

I have this feeling this is the tip of the iceberg and Milliedge is a part of a big trade?

Quite possible, Rev. Or maybe the Mets just don't feel Milledge is ready, and wanted to buy him more time. Guess we'll find out.
