Mets 7 - Marlins 2
Although he struggled a little with his control in the last 2 innings of his 6 inning effort against the Fish last night, John Maine looked a lot more like the pitcher who dominated in April than he has in his three previous outings. Maine also continued to display really promising improvement in his off-speed stuff. His slider last night was particularly effective. He was able to keep it down and the zone and off the middle of the plate. He also was able to throw some fastballs down in the zone, which kept hitters from teeing off on high fastballs.
Carlos Delgado's hitting stroke seems to have found him again, and we can only hope that he is able to hold onto it for a while. David Wright seems to have misplaced his again after a hot streak last week. Paul Lo Duca's 1-3 yesterday actually dropped his average for May. In 20 games, he is batting .425/.463/.521 after slumping for most of April.
