Twins 9 - Mets 0
Played Tuesday, June 19, 2007
I don't think it's a coincidence that the final score of this one was the official score of a forfeited game. This game wasn't a third of the way over before it seemed as if the Mets should save themselves some time and just surrender. Then again, since the whole thing took a little under 2-1/2 hours, it wouldn't have mattered that much, anyway.
Since Jorge Sosa came up and started pitching well, it was obvious that on nights that he didn't have his good slider he would be ineffective. As with his last time out against the Dodgers this was the case, and the results were even uglier -- assisted by some bad defense behind him.

I'm not going to go crazy analyzing this one. I do have to say, however, that I was disappointed that the fans felt the need to boo Jorge Sosa when he was leaving the field. Keep in mind that this is a guy who came out of nowhere to stabilize the rotation when Pelfrey couldn't get it done. He has 6 wins in 9 starts, including 2 of the Mets 4 June wins. Yes, he's been awful his last 2 times out, but what are we booing? Do we think he wasn't trying, or have we become such poor sports when things don't go our way that we feel that bad outings deserve our scorn? I swear, I feel like a relic from a kinder, gentler era and I'm not even 50 yet. (I know that feels very old to some of you but trust me, your criteria for what constitutes truly old keeps going up as you reach another milestone). If Jorge Sosa doesn't win another game for this team the past month and a half should earn him a little slack. Jeez...
