There will be plenty to say about the baseball team that let never quite seemed hungry enough to complete what they started, but I'd like to take a few moments tonight to hand out some discredit where it is absolutely due.
The people that run SportsNet New York have, in their two years of existence, proven to be absolutely clueless about their primary audience, the Mets fan. Without us, this network has virtually no reason to exist. Unfortunately, the suits in command of this vehicle have no loyalty at all to Mets fans. Their decision to forgo pre- and post-game shows during the September pennant race for all games televised on Channel 11 or FOX was indefensible enough, but to provide absolutely nothing today with the entire season riding on the outcome was utterly inexcusable. They gave us nothing... nada... zip... bupkis.
Whatever else you might say about YES and NESN, they're always there for Yankee and Red Sox fans when it matters. Jeers to this joke of a network, which puts much more effort into trying to appeal to non-Mets fans than to serving us. Disgraceful.

There is nothing more satisfying than a Phils victory in tandem with a Mets meltdown! Thank you Mets! No more obnoxious trashy fans on the planet can be found and oh what a joy to watch em walk off with nothing! GO PHILS!!!

Mike, I very much agree with your comments.
PhilsRule, your comment makes you look as trashy as the sort of Mets fan you condemn.

Bill Nicholson, Richie/Dick Allen, Mike Schmidt, Pat Burrell.....
Let's ask those guys where the most obnoxious fans in the world reside. Each of those guys I mentioned was either an excellent player or a genuinely great player. And the Phillies fans wanted to run each of them out of town. And those four are hardly alone in that distinction.
Did Mr Philsrule happen to catch that tribute to Mike Piazza that the Mets put on last year? Can anyone imagine Philadelphia doing something like that for a former player? Of course not; he would be lucky to escape without taking a battery in the ear.
To quote Jim Brosnan from memory in a book written in 1960: the fans who sit by the third base line in Philadelphia are the most obnoxious in baseball. (Said fan) has, typically, a bass voice, a baser personality, and is quick enough on his feet not to get caught.
Isn't it amazing how some things don't change?
Congratulations to Jimmy Rollins and Cole Hamels, Howard and Utley and all the Phillies players, for that remarkable run. None whatsoever to the fans of Phillie, the ugliest in baseball.
Hey, I've been to Philadelphia; I understand how you got that way. But don't try to share it with us. Someone might be trying to eat or something.

Oh god, Mike. This hurts.
Since i can't see pre or post games, thanks to MLB Extra Innings (be thankful you don't have that problem), I am not as worked up about it. And I love the broadcast team SNY assembled--especially since i watched the burial on the Fish broadcast. But you can't put anything by a network that gave gainful employment to Fran Healy for all those years.
The Phils might "deserve" it, but the fans surely don't. I always say, Philadelphia fans are the only people that hate the Phillies more than their opponents.
Well the clock has struck midnight for our team. I look forward to your offseason comments. There is so much discredit to hand out, it seems impossible. It is hard to believe the Mets have to go back to the drawing board again.

Hi Mike- It's been a long time, sorry I have been a mikesmets deliquent, but between running my new business and deciding to go for my masters degree, I haven't had a lot of time to look at my regular Mets sites. In fact I gave up all three of my MVN blogs.
This collapse just plain sucked, and while everyone is sending Tommy Glavine off into the sunset with the fondest of memories I would like to kick him out the door with a steel tipped cowboy boot. He just showed no remorse for that final meltdown. I can forgive a guy for a having a bad day, but that reaction was reminded me of Kenny Rogers shrugging his shoulders in the 1999 playoffs.
The bullpen was awful, and when your starters cant go more than 4 innings that is a huge problem, not to mention Delgado sucking wind with his bat and Reyes just plain sucking. Sorry for the belated venting-I just had some time to take it all in now, as I half heartedly watch the other teams play October baseball. Hope all is well with you & Lisa
