I decided to play Santa for myself this holiday season and update both my desktop and laptop computers. My former desktop was almost seven years old. It was a top of the line machine when I bought it, as things were going really for me back then. This was fortunate, as it wasn't until the last couple of years that my system became really inadequate. My laptop was older and has been virtually useless for more than checking e-mail while travelling for quite some time. I could have used some new equipment years ago, since I make my living on a computer, but getting sick a few years back cut down on my ability to put in the hours working. I made do with what I have.
Things have been getting better -- both personally and physically -- and I decided a couple of weeks ago that it was time to invest in better tools. Now I have a good desktop machine again and a very serviceable laptop to go along with it. My hope is that this will not only make my work a lot easier, but also allow me to update this blog a lot more often. After spending the better part of the last few days getting them up and running, installing software and getting all of my files transferred, both machines are about ready to go. I have a couple of things I hope to weigh in on this week.
When I purchased the new laptop, I invested in some wireless technology that I've been wanting to get into for a while. Besides the obvious benefits for my business, it will allow me to try to keep up on my email while I'm actually spending some time with Lisa in the evening.
In the meantime, I'd like to take a moment to thank all of you who have made the last 2-1/2 years of blogging worthwhile and interesting. I'd also like to thank all of the contributors to this site who have enriched the content so deeply. Thanks to all of the great commenters for chipping in with their insights. I've made some good friends and enjoyable acquaintances that I really treasure. Basically, that's why I made the decision to keep this blog going despite the difficulty of finding the time to put into it.
Talk to you soon.
