In a little while I will posting my first book review since December 2006. This is despite the fact that I love to read and had hoped to make reviews of books and DVDs relevant to Mets fans a regular part of this blog.
Several things contributed to this. I've been working very hard putting my business back on track after some health problems that made things for me the last couple of years. I still have some ups and downs health-wise, too, although things have generally been better.
Lisa and I bought our first house last year. I was realistic and knew it would require a lot of work, but there were several things that required an enormous time investment on my part.
Because of these things and some other minor matters, my blog and several other things that I cared about suffered for lack of adequate time to put into them. It seemed as if every time I was reading last year it was either something for work or a how-to manual for something the house required. In a normal year I probably read about 25 books, but last year I read less than 5.
One thing I regret is that I received four books to review from either the author or publisher and did not review any of them. Review copies of books are given out in order to get the book out there in front of potential buyers. It's not that anyone expects a positive review when they send out a book, but they certainly have the right to expect a review.
I'm glad last year's over. Although I still have a tendency to fall behind on everything once in a while, I think I have a better handle on things now. I've made the decision to keep this blog going, and hopefully will be able to balance all of the obligations in my life a little better.
Later today I will publish my first review of the four, and expect to have them all finished within a month. Here are the four books in the order I will review them. Links are to the author's web sites.
Note that despite my regret for taking so long to review these books, I will review them honestly. My feeling has always been to recommend a book only if it deserves that recommendation. Anything else is a disservice to my readers who might consider my review in their decision to buy the book. I've been fortunate in the few reviews I've done so far in that all of the books or DVDs have been worthwhile efforts, but I have also pointed out what I have seen as shortcomings in a couple of the reviews.
