I was watching the Mets game against the Indians tonight and was somewhat surprised to hear Keith Hernandez mention that someone was impersonating him on a MySpace page. Keith didn't like the "tribute" very much, and seemed to be under the impression that there were people leaving comments on the page that believed they were talking to the real Keith Hernandez.
After the game I checked it out. Sure enough, it came up on a search for "Keith Hernandez MySpace." At the top of the page there was an old glamour picture of Keith with the assertion "I won the 1979 MVP; I can do whatever I want." Looking down the page, you'd have to be pretty gullible to believe it had anything to do with the real Keith, and there was also a disclaimer for anyone who possessed lingering doubts:
THIS PAGE HAS, IN NO WAY, ANY AFFILIATION WITH THE REAL KEITH HERNANDEZ. IT IS MEANT AS BOTH A JOKE AND A TRIBUTE TO KEITH. KEITH HERNANDEZ HAS NO ASSOCIATION WITH THIS PAGE AND ANY VIEWS EXPRESSED ARE NOT NECCESSARILY THOSE OF KEITH HERNANDEZ
The rest of the page varied from mildly amusing to obvious cliché. I won't link to it here, as it was obvious that Keith didn't appreciate it. If you want to see it bad enough you could find it the same way I did. My biggest thought looking at this page was how weird it would be to find something like that with someone pretending to be me. Since I'm not famous it's not likely to happen. If it did, though, I have to think it would feel somewhat strange, akin to finding a stranger wandering around in your house. Celebrity has its benefits, but I guess you give up some basic privacy. Weird.
As for the game, John Maine was pretty solid, the Mets offense was still lacking, and the season can't get here fast enough anymore. Hasta mañana.
