One Day at a Time

Hi everyone. I hope you all had a wonderful winter. I also hope we all have a wonderful spring, summer, and fall. However, I'm not going to count on it. And not because I'm not optimistic, but because I actually learned something this winter. Something that my New York Football Giants taught me. I learned that it is so much better when you don't see it coming. So, I have my blinders on from here on out. I'm taking it game by game, series by series.

Santana was a joy to watch yesterday. At one point I found myself wishing he could pitch every game for us. I can't remember the last time that I wasn't worried that a 6 run lead and then even a 4 run lead wouldn't hold up, but yesterday I just knew we'd be fine with Santana on the mound. He gives me a comfort level I haven't felt with a Mets pitcher since, I don't know, Tom Seaver, Doc Gooden? Well, you get my point. Yet, I can still see how over the long haul how the offense might struggle to score runs and how the pitching will have to sustain us. And of course, there are always the injury questions.

Unlike others, last season is not forgotten or over for me. I don't easily forget the past, and as "they" say, those who do forget it are doomed to repeat it. My wounds never heal easily and last season is certainly too new, too fresh, and too deep for it to have disappeared already. I hope the Mets feel the same way. Yes, they need to move on, as do I, but never forget, lest it happen again. Use it for motivation if you must, but don't forget that it can and did happen.

So, we won one game so far and that is great. I am happy. I am eager to watch Pedro tonight. There is such a long rode ahead of us that is hard to look too far ahead. I can still remember how great that moment of pure joy felt when my Giants beat the Pats in the Super Bowl this year. I hadn't felt that kind of exhilaration in so long. It actually lasted for days. It would be great if we could all feel it with a World Series Championship for our Mets. But honestly, after the way our season ended last year, I was happy to just get that one win yesterday. And if when all is said and done, we end up with a WSC, then it will be that much sweeter, because we never saw it coming, trust me.

About Joyce: I am an insanely passionate die-hard Mets fan since 1962 who is also a season ticket holder and usually can't bear to look and buries her head in her hands or starts pacing when I'm home when things get tense...   Read More -->
