Game 50: Mets 5 - Marlins 3
I made it through a Mets game last night with hardly any urges to throw something at the TV, and still feeling that life was worth living when it was all over. I consider that progress, all things considered.
Sorry for the late posting. I spent a lot of today doing yard work and thinking about the future of this club. I hope to have a major opinion piece on this at one point this week. Just a couple of thoughts on the game:
In 5 starts in May, including last night's, Johan Santana has allowed 43 hits in 33-2/3 IP. Opponents are batting .307/.349/.493 for the month against him. Yet his ERA in those game is 3.74 and the Mets have won 4 of the 5 games. Part of this is due to the fact he doesn't walk many batters, but he also knows how to pitch out of trouble. Contrast this with Mike Pelfrey, against whom opponents are batting .321/.411/.453 in 5 May starts. Those numbers aren't much worse than Santana's, but his ERA is 6.08 for the month and the Mets are 0-5 in those starts. He issues a lot more walks than Johan and fails to limit the damage against him.
Nice clutch hitting by Fernando Tatis and Ramon Castro, who each had a pair of 2-out RBIs. With Alou on the DL and Church a possibility to join him, here's hoping Tatis can keep that hot start going for a while.
Do the Mets build on last night's game or revert tonight? Wish I knew.

Mike - You now have your answer. Wednesday's game is definitely one to build on. Turning point of the season? First game of the rest of their lives? Who the heck knows? All I know is, I'll get to go visit Mets Walkoffs again this season. I wasn't sure I'd be doing that before Shea was torn down.
P.S. - Aaron Heilman struck out the side in the eighth inning? Pinch me...

Two in a row.....I am going to pass out. The extra inning comeback....Tatis 2-run double, it was funny I said earlier around the 7th inning that he would have a walk-off homer, but I appreciate his double all the more.

Wouldn't it be great if the team who has the worst finish in baseball could have the greatest comeback in baseball and win it all the very next year! Man see what two wins in a row can do to my spirit. It's how they win or how they lose is what effects me. They played like they wanted to win last night and they did.Three in a row anybody?

Yes, that would be great indeed.
Sandy Ewing.....she was the last one that could play with my emotions as effortlessly as this team. Course, I was in the fifth grade then....
