Losing Streak Ends

Game 47: Mets 9 - Rockies 2

Baseball is a funny game. After Johan Santana and Oliver Perez came up short in their efforts to end the losing streak, Claudio Vargas does it on 3 days rest. After being staked to a big early lead, Vargas throws strikes and gives the Mets a quality 7 inning effort. You couldn't have scripted that much better after the bullpen had to provide 8 innings of work the night before.

Nick Evans looks interesting beyond his great debut. Drafted in 2004 as an 18-year-old, he has put up decent minor league numbers (271 ./337.466 in 5 seasons), but has never been seen as a top prospect. He had a good year in High-A St. Lucie last season and was off to a hot start in AA Binghamton, but it was still a surprise when the Mets called him up. He has a clue at the plate and it will be interesting to see how he develops.

They should bring up Mako Oliveras the Binghamton manager as well, he knows how to handle the kids.I have watched him defend his team and he is no push over a well respected guy by fans, teams and umpires. He has a good baseball background and knows how to play the game.We need new blood, what the heck I am for drastic change. Mako, Mako and no untouchables.
