Game 61: Padres 2 - Mets 1 (10) (Friday night)

Same score, just more innings to get there.

Leave any comments below. I'm working on a longer piece for later on. Frankly, there isn't much to say about games like this anymore that hasn't already been said ad nauseam.

About Mike: I was the original writer on this web site, actually its only writer for the first 15 months of existence. Although I am grateful for the excellent contributions of my fellow writers here, I have no plans of stepping back into strictly an editorial role. I started this thing in the first place because I love to write and I love the Mets, and blogging here keeps me somewhat sane. If you haven't had enough already, more bio info can be found here.

mike, after watching today's 8-6 disaster, the mets have all the earmarks of a mediocre team, when they pitch well for 3 nites, nobody hits.when they score runs today, the pitching stinks.after todays loss, i have a message for billy wagner..SHUT UP FOR THE REST OF THE YEAR!!!a 3 run homer to a washed up tony clark, who did not have a homer all year!!!please be quiet and stop criticizing other players.wagner is just ome more big money guy who came to the mets for a big paycheck and can't deliver in the clutch.i'd like to say if things get worse at least we can look forward to some young talent being called up.but we have the worst farm system in baseball!!nice job omar.moises alou says he can play on tuesday..maybe not.another nice signing by omar.on the post game on sny, willie says he's embarrassed by his team..i'll give him credit for being honest..all the fans are embarrassed too.

Well we got what we asked for, a different score but, a beat down late. What can we say that hasn't already been said. The road seems dificult for the Mets to win on. After winning the Giants series, the Mets again looked for an offense that took 3 nights off, and then the pitching decided to go on a siesta on the 4th! Typical 2007-2008 Mets baseball. I don't know, I am weak, distraught, and can't figure it out. Now AZ comes into town and pitching their best 3. Oh woe is a Mets fan!

Every 2-1 loss we endure means another starting pitcher is getting the idea ingrained in his memory that every one of his pitches has to be perfect. A starter who knows he has no margin of error is a starter destined to (in the short term) lose that game and (in the long term) lose his confidence.
