Game 59: Padres 2 - Mets 1 (Thursday night)
Game 60: Padres 2 - Mets 1 (Friday night)
Sorry for being MIA. I was planning to catch up on both games this morning, but I had to do some work outside for an hour. The heat was amazing, however, and it put me out of commission for a while.
In retrospect, that may have been a good thing. While I was recuperating it occurred to me how tired I am of writing about the Mets offensive failings this season. I think everything has been said in this regard already.
I've accommodated myself that this is how it will be this season. I just don't believe there is a bat that can really make a difference available out there for any reasonable price. $140 million payroll should have bought more offense, anyway. If I were Fred Wilpon, Omar would have some explaining to do.
Two winnable games. Seasons go down the tubes when teams can't cash in on those consistently.

I think there is one new development. Before we had a reason to wait on Alou, but at this point we simply can't do that anymore. He had his chance and he blew it. If he comes back healthy, he can sit on the bench or be part of a platoon. We need to bring a new OF aboard--and fast. I'd try to deal Perez, a reliever and one minor leaguer with upside for a 1B-OF now. But who could we get??
