Game 83: Mets 7 - Cardinals 4 (Tuesday)
Game 84: Cardinals 8 - Mets 7 (Wednesday)
As nice as Tuesday night's victory was, I had the feeling that they would follow it up with a loss. To their credit, they fought back from a big deficit, and Pedro overcame an awful first inning to at least give them a chance.
I wish they displayed the kind of fight they did last night more consistently. It would make this team a lot easier to root for. On the other hand, as they continue to flounder around a playoff spot seems further away every day. 84 games into the season and two games under .500, there are no moral victories for the Mets or for Pedro.
I still say whatever chance they have of still contending is wrapped up in Pedro returning to form.
Note: I am not going to do a stat sheet for Tony Armas at this time. If he makes another start I will create one for him.
