Game 129: Mets 3 - Astros 0
You can't beat a true ace when you're looking to win a game where the other guy pitches well, too. Other than the first two innings, Roy Oswalt undoubtedly outpitched Johan Santana, but it was the Mets that were able to come out of this game with a much-needed win.
As I watch this game and other recent games I can't help being struck by the level of play compared to what we saw in the first half. If the Mets as a team have even the dimmest hopes of overcoming Wagner's absence ant their other assorted bullpen woes they will need to continue to play like this in the field and on the bases, as well as scoring as many runs as possible.
When I look at the upcoming schedule and see five games against the Phillies, three against the Marlins and three against the Brewers I shake my head and wonder how they could survive it with this bullpen. I guess the answer for that and these next three against a pretty good Astros team is just to day-in, day-out continue play as well as they have for most of this month. Great starting pitching like we've seen won't hurt, either.
