Being a Fan

Excuse the couple of days without posts. I was writing an opinion piece Friday that work-related obstacles never allowed me to finish, and yesterday I was busy with some work around the house.

I set out this morning to write a piece on Friday night's loss, but after about a half hour of effort I realized I wasn't ready to write it yet. I think I'd like to put aside my blogger hat until after tonight's game and just enjoy today's two contests as a fan.

Since I started blogging over three years ago I watch every game with an eye towards what I might write about it afterwards. In many ways, that has enhanced my enjoyment by opening my eyes to noticing more of the nuances. Sometimes, though, it gets in the way.

One of the favorite moments in the movie Bull Durham was right at the end of the movie, when Crash Davis told Annie Savoy:

I got a lotta time to hear your theories and I wanta hear every damn one of 'em...but right now I'm tired and I don't wanta think about baseball and I don't wanta think about Quantum Physics... I don't wanta think about nothing... I just wanta be.

Days like today are what baseball is all about -- even with the threat that a bad day by the Mets can break our hearts. Anyway, I'm not going to worry about that, I'm just going to be.

Let's go Mets.

About Mike: I was the original writer on this web site, actually its only writer for the first 15 months of existence. Although I am grateful for the excellent contributions of my fellow writers here, I have no plans of stepping back into strictly an editorial role. I started this thing in the first place because I love to write and I love the Mets, and blogging here keeps me somewhat sane. If you haven't had enough already, more bio info can be found here.

You know, Selma has a saying that fits it all. Sel will say to me, as I am having a fit over man on 3rd and no out and we don't score "It is what it is" and I have no come back, YOU KNOW, IT IS WHAT IT IS.
