Like most other blogs, this site gets bombarded with thousands of SPAM comments every day. This spamming is done by automatic programs and often using compromised computers, so it's really hard to stop.
If I had to go through all the comments manually and get rid of all the spam comments, I wouldn't have time to do this blog. On the other hand, I really value hearing the range of opinions from you guys, and I don't want to implement a system that requires logging in or deciphering those crazy letter scrambles to post comments.
What has worked pretty well is a system that's been in place here for quite a while. It discriminates between legitimate and illegitimate comments based on words used, the IP the comment is originating from, and some other criteria. It does a good job of eliminating more than 99% of the SPAM without me having to lift a finger.
Unfortunately, it's not perfect. Sometimes it eliminates or holds for my intervention legit comments. If this happens to you, please email me at the address in the top right section of the blog. Let me know about what time you posted your comment, the name and/or email address you used, and I will make sure it gets posted to the web site.
I probably would have stopped blogging more than a year ago if I didn't enjoy the community of users that choose to spend some time here out of your busy lives. The last thing I want to see is you taking some time to share your thoughts and then the comment not making it on-line.
