I was going to write this post a lot earlier, but I wasted a lot of time running down the street shouting out to my Yankee and Red Sox fan neighbors, "We got Elmer Dessens! We got Elmer Dessens!"
Oh sure, they pretended not to be impressed, but I knew better.
Seriously, though, with the big signings out of the way and a slew of long shot invitations being handed out, you don't need a calendar to know that training camp can't be far off. A week from today will be the official reporting date for pitchers and catchers, with position players following a week from this coming Monday.
The World Baseball Classic intrudes on the normal routines of camp again this spring with all of the subtlety of a pack of drunk teenage boys, and I know I will be desperately bored with spring training at least two weeks before the season starts. Even with all that, I still find myself with a foolish grin that just won't go away.
Baseball is almost here, and spring can't be far behind.

With Football over, baseball can't begin fast enough for me.

I've been passing time watching the Caribbean Series and old MLB World Series games on the MLB Network. I can't wait for spring training to get here. Hopefully the Mets will make it through the spring and WBC with no major injuries (knock on wood).
