Checking In

By Mike Steffanos

Sorry for the lack of posts this week. We had a probate hearing for my mom on Wednesday and I've picked up a new part-time job. I'll be heading to that in a few minutes.

I have something that I've been working on that I expect to get posted this weekend. While I probably won't be able to post daily during the month of March I do have reasonable hopes of being able to post 3-4 times a week. I promise not to disappear again. This week was just truly insane.

If anyone has any thoughts on the first week of spring training games leave a comment below.

About Mike: I was the original writer on this web site, actually its only writer for the first 15 months of existence. Although I am grateful for the excellent contributions of my fellow writers here, I have no plans of stepping back into strictly an editorial role. I started this thing in the first place because I love to write and I love the Mets, and blogging here keeps me somewhat sane. If you haven't had enough already, more bio info can be found here.

here's some spring training observations..i watched the 2 games on sny.it's nice to see a real outfielder (jason bay) palying left field..good signing..david wright looks good at the plate.hopefully a good bounce back season in 2010 coming up.jon niese showed a wicked cutter to righties today.i got my first look at jennry mejia today..all pitches were between 92-97 mph.4 k's in 2 1/3 innings.DO NOT RUSH THIS GUY!!only 20 years old..give him time in the minors..definitely has a major league arm..Ike davis will be our first baseman next year..if murphy and the team stink, i could see davis in lineup by july.Power and nice glove at first base.saw igaroshi pitch today.hit 93 mph on gun..good breaking pitch.did allow a homerun but throws hard.I don't want to comment on jose reyes because of the bizarre nature of his condition.hopefully he can play by the end of the month and be ready for the season

i forgot to include ollie perez's one positive.when he pitches, i forget how much i can't stand castillo.not much return for 12 mill a year though..
